Hopefully you'll find these guidelines helpful.

" Soap can cause a film to form, making it appear dull and dingy. By preventing the formation of this film you immediately reduce the occasions of servicing."

Remove Jewellery During Manual Tasks

Remove your Jewellery to prevent physical damage or exposure to chemicals or cleaning fluids. Some tasks that should be avoided when wearing jewellery include kitchen work, gardening, cleaning the house and other common tasks.

Put Jewellery On After Applying Makeup

Ingredients in cosmetics, perfumes, hairspray and lotion often damage jewellery. Putting jewellery on after applying these materials will limit exposure to jewellery and potential damage.

Avoid Wearing Jewellery In Swimming Pools & Spas

Chlorinated water can react with the metals found in jewellery causing colour changes and even structural damage. As a result it's a good idea to remove jewellery before entering the pool or spa.

Remove Jewellery During Contact Sports

Hard blows during sports can damage jewellery and not to mention the people involved. All jewellery should be removed before physical activity begin.

Cleaning Jewellery

If wear jewellery regularly, keeping them clean and looking good requires regular effort. Here are some general guidelines that may help;

  • Remove Your Jewellery Before Bathing

Remove all jewellery before showering or cleaning. Soap can cause a film to form, making it appear dull and dingy. By preventing the formation of this film you immediately reduce the occasions of servicing.

  • Use Jewellery Polishing Cloths for Best Results

Polish silver or gold with a jewellery polishing cloth for best results. Professional cloths can be used too. Use of tissue or paper towels can cause scratches because of fibres in these products. Each Brio London product comes with a jewellery polishing cloth for removing grime.

  • Clean Your Jewellery With Care

Cleaning your own Jewellery regularly can keep it looking good, but be careful. You can either purchase commercial cleaners from a jewellers or make a mild dish soap and water solution yourself. Rubbing alcohol can work wonders but bleach can literally destroy Jewellery so avoid it at all costs, you've been warned lol.

  • You Can Use Warm Water to Clean Jewellery

Using warm water is the best bet when cleaning your own jewellery. Hot water can cause reactions with the cleaning fluids resulting in discoloration and sterling silver is especially susceptible to this problem. Should this occur, this problem can be remedied by buffing and the application of a tarnish remover.  On Gold plated jewellery excessive polishing can cause the plating to ware off quicker, you can use a soft tooth brush, a bit of dish soap and warm water to gently clean your jewellery.

  • Avoid Cleaning Damaged Jewellery

Never clean any Jewellery that is damaged, cracked or broken, since the additional handling is likely to exacerbate or worsen the problem. If you find that a piece of jewellery is damaged, it should be set aside for repair as soon as possible.

Gold Plated

Our jewellery is plated using Rose Gold or Gold. It is jewellery that is sterling silver plated with gold and ensures our jewellery is hypoallergenic.

The gold we use in our plate is 18 karat and up. A karat is the measure of gold’s purity, with 24 karat gold being the purest you can get. This terminology comes from the measurement of a German gold coin called a mark about a thousand years ago. The more you know *Rainbow*.

925 Sterling Silver

We use solid 925 sterling silver to ensure great product quality. Unlike base metals, it won’t turn your ears green and is hypoallergenic as standard. If you were wondering, 925 means 92.5% out of 100% pure silver – the remaining 7.5% is copper.

Our gemstones

I make the effort of creating a sustainable supply chain by being the sole manufacturer and ensure that all of our stones are ethically sourced and some recycled from old thrifted jewellery. Our Gemstones are ethically sourced from suppliers who follow socially responsible practices and never source from conflict regions or obtained from recycled means. Some gemstones are more fragile than others so your perfume, moisturizer or fake tan can damage your gemstones so make sure you give them a wipe if they come into contact with these products or apply them before putting on your jewellery.

Silver

Wear your silver with you everywhere to keep tarnish at bay (oil on your skin will protect it). Oxygen is silver’s enemy: keep your jewellery in its pouch or an airtight bag to keep the oxo-demon away.

Plated Jewellery

Plated jewellery is delicate so make sure you take off your plated jewellery before working out, jumping in the pool, shower, or tanning.  Keep your gold pieces and gleaming by storing them in their pouch and remember not to buff too hard with your polishing cloth.

Pearls

Pearls are alkaline, so acids are their sworn enemy. Make sure you take off your pearls before washing up, getting in water, or working up a sweat. Your perfume, moisturizer or fake tan can damage your pearls so make sure you give them a wipe if any acids come their way.

Storage

To improve the enjoyment of your jewellery, here are suggestions that should help keep your jewellery organized and orderly;

  • Keep Your Jewellery Secure
Store your jewellery in our Brio London pouch or container to prevent pieces from moving around. While fabric lined jewellery boxes are ideal, storage can be as simple as using a shoebox and pieces of fabric.
  • Prevent Your Jewellery from Tarnishing
Sometimes jewellery tarnishes went it's not worn, especially silver and gold. To maintain the lustre of your Jewellery, place silver anti-tarnish strips in your storage container to absorb oxidants or a small packet of desiccant crystals to help reduce tarnishing in unworn jewellery.
  • When Travelling with Jewellery, Use a Case
Travelling can be tough on jewellery, so it may be wise to use a travel case to protect your favourite pieces. Traditionally made of fabric or leather, a Jewellery travel case can carry jewellery of all types and easily rolls up to a size that's easily stored in most travel bags. A travel case is a good investment to protect your jewellery while on the road.
